Looking for host families!

Host family

Are you a dog lover and have experience with dogs?

Do you have options to provide a temporary shelter for a dog in need? If you think it would be a challenge to be the first step into the puppy's new life, then we are looking for you!

Being a host family is beautiful and rewarding work. But often also intensive. A full-time task, with enormous satisfaction as a reward.

What does it mean?

As a host family, you take care of a puppy that has come directly from abroad until a suitable owner is found for him or her. Of course, all dogs are healthy, fully vaccinated and in possession of a European passport. This concerns puppies from Romania and Italy, among others.

Choosing the shelter puppy is always up to the shelter coordinator, taking into account the home situation of the host family.

After registering as a host family, our reception coordinator will contact you. She will tell you everything about fostering puppies and answer any questions you may have. If possible, a home visit will take place. The conditions are discussed and mutually agreed on the basis of a reception agreement.

The duration of the care

is difficult to predict. This can vary from a few days to a few weeks. The host family does not have to help find an owner. The Puppy Rescue Team Foundation advertises for the puppy and takes care of the screening of the prospective owners. This is often done in consultation with the host family, who knows the puppy best. The selected owners visit the host family to get to know the puppy. The host family supervises this introduction and immediately sees whether there is a 'click'. The host family reports on the introduction to the Puppy Rescue Team Foundation and in consultation it is determined whether the puppy can be adopted. After the agreement, an appointment is made and the new owners will pick up the puppy from the host family. The host family's job is done, the foster puppy will have a wonderful life.

Do you have a question?

We are happy to help you!

In principle there are no costs involved.

Lots of love, patience, understanding and empathy for the puppy and its past abroad.

Do you think you are suitable as a host family and would you like to help care for our rescue puppies from Romania or Italy? Then you are very welcome in our team. For more information:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question? We are ready for you.

  • Will I receive compensation for taking in a puppy?

No. Shelter is done on a voluntary basis

  • What about food, baskets, belts of toys, etc. Will I receive compensation for this?

When a puppy comes to your shelter, you will receive a collar and a leash from us. Sometimes a basket, food and toys are available, but usually you have to purchase these things yourself. If you are not financially able to do this, but you would really like to foster a puppy, we can discuss with you how we can support you in this.

  • Are veterinary costs reimbursed?

If the puppy in your care is in mortal danger, you can go to the nearest veterinarian of your choice. The foundation will bear the costs for this.

  • Have the dogs been medically examined?

Yes. All puppies at the shelter are chipped, dewormed and vaccinated.

  • What if the puppy turns out not to fit into the family?

It is important for the puppy that he has a stable living situation until he goes to a new owner. If for whatever reason things go wrong for you, we will remove the puppy from you and place it in another foster family. This is of course not our preference and is always subject to consultation.

  • How long does a shelter puppy stay on average?

Shelter is always temporary, but it can never be said with certainty how long a puppy will stay with you. We believe it is important that the right match is made. This means that we have found new homes for some puppies within a few weeks. For others it could take months

  • Will my wishes be taken into account if I adopt a puppy?

Yes, as far as possible we take your living situation and wishes into account
